Box with Bell Flower Design in Chalk Drawing
The bell-like shape of the flowers fascinates me. Since I was born and raised in the wonderful surroundings of Nagano Prefecture, seeing simple yet intriguing wildflowers makes me want to
sketch them.
I try to trace the adorable, plump shape of bell flowers in my sketch. While the stem grows straight up, the flowers hang down, looking modest and snuggling against one another.
A box is a fun thing to open, but also gives me an impression of stillness with its firm structure and straight lines. What I try to draw on the box is a gentle interaction between bell flowers and butterflies floating in the wind. When I portray plants on my ceramics, I try to capture the presence of life and my deep admiration for it, more than just the simple design. For the decorating I use my original tool, which is a piece of chalk made from ceramic materials.
